Music is held in high regard by Lutherans, especially at Holy Trinity. Martin Luther called music “an excellent gift of God.” The congregation supports an active music program, under the coordination of HTLC’s Cantor, Valerie Lefever Hughes.
Cherub Choir
The Cherub Choir is a choir for pre-readers, generally ages potty-trained through 1st grade. This group will learn basic rhythm and melody skills and learn to echo a leader’s voice. They will sing in worship about twice per semester. Rehearsals are Thursdays from 4:30-5.
Joyful Noise Choir
The Joyful Noise Choir is for 2nd through 5th grade students. We’ll learn fundamentals of reading music, some basic sight-singing and solfege (singing on do, re, mi), and we’ll use Orff instruments and percussion. In addition, we’ll learn liturgical responses, the flow of a Sunday morning liturgy, and how to navigate through a hymnal. Joyful Noise will lead worship 2-3 times each semester. Rehearsals are Thursdays from 5:15-6:00.
Youth Choir
The Youth Choir, for grades 6 through 12, rehearses every other week in conjunction with the Youth Group schedule.
Contemporary Musicians
This group consists of drummers, bassists, guitarists, and vocalists who rehearse weekly and lead congregational song at every Sunday’s 8:30am contemporary worship service. Generally we prepare a prelude and an offertory as well as learn hymns and liturgical pieces for the upcoming weeks in order to facilitate congregational singing. Instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages, from high school and up, are always welcome to join - whether or not you are able to attend weekly. Rehearsals are 7:30-8:30pm (vocalists) and 8:00-9:00pm (instrumentalists) on Wednesday nights.
Chancel Choir
This group, an SATB choir for adult singers (high school and up) of all skill levels, rehearses weekly on Thursday nights. Usually, we prepare an anthem for each Sunday’s 11:00am traditional service, as well as preparing hymns, portions of the liturgy, psalms, and so on. All are welcome to join, regardless of musical background, and whether or not you are able to commit to weekly attendance. Rehearsals are Thursday nights, 7:30-9pm.
Instruments
A 7’ Mason & Hamlin model BB grand piano graces the nave at Holy Trinity. Purchased specifically for the nave of HTLC’s recently completed Worship Center, the Mason & Hamlin is currently the centerpiece of our music program.
Plans are being made to investigate possibilities for the purchase of a new pipe organ.
